Client: Museum of the Goldfields (WA Museum)
Timeline: August 2024
The Museum of the Goldfields engaged Wander to prepare a Project Plan for the Aboriginal Bush Food & Medicine Garden, an initiative designed to transform an outdoor space into a cultural and educational feature that celebrates Aboriginal knowledge of bush foods and medicinal plants. The project is part of the museum’s broader commitment to cultural engagement and community learning.
Wander developed a comprehensive framework to guide delivery of the garden, covering project scope, design considerations, sustainability measures, risk management, governance and communications. Our role was to ensure the museum had a clear and practical roadmap, informed by cultural knowledge holders and community priorities, that could move the project from concept to implementation.
The plan detailed practical requirements including plant selection, interpretive signage, accessibility, water-wise systems and safety compliance. It also provided tools for stakeholder engagement, outlined roles and responsibilities, and identified communication strategies to maximise visibility and community involvement.
As a result, the Museum now has a clear, structured plan to support delivery of the garden with confidence, ensuring the initiative is culturally authentic, environmentally sustainable and positioned as a valuable addition to the visitor experience. This project demonstrates Wander’s expertise in governance and strategic planning, showing how clear frameworks and practical tools enable regional institutions to deliver significant initiatives with confidence and integrity.
