State & Local Government
Practical strategy, engagement and evaluation for government working across regional Western Australia.
Regional delivery is rarely straightforward.
Community expectations. Competing priorities. Limited resources. Political pressures. Vast distances. Tight timeframes. Stretched teams.
We step in when you need independent advice, a neutral facilitator or experienced people who can take a project forward without adding more pressure.
“There are strong views on this. We need someone neutral to help us work through them.”

When an issue is sensitive or people see things differently, an independent facilitator can help keep the conversation constructive. We create space for people to speak honestly, explore different perspectives and give decision-makers a clear account of what was heard.
“The DG wants to know why this isn’t working. So do we.”

When a team, service or function is not delivering as expected, it can be difficult to see the cause from inside. We look at the structure, roles, processes and pressure points to identify what is getting in the way and what needs to change.

Why Wander
We understand government
Jade and Claire have significant experience working within and alongside state and local government. We understand process, accountability and risk, and why getting the work done properly matters just as much as the final outcome.

We go where the work is happening
We travel from the top to the bottom of WA to understand places, projects and communities firsthand. It is why we are called Wander. We get on the ground, speak with the people involved and see what may not be visible from head office.

We understand what’s at stake
Government decisions affect people, communities and public money. We understand the pressure that comes with that, including scrutiny, reputational risk and responsibility for getting the process right. Our work is clear, well documented and designed to support defensible decisions.

Sometimes you need an outsider
An independent person can ask questions, lead difficult conversations and say things an internal team may not be able to. We give the process credibility and provide clear, evidence-based advice that decision-makers can stand behind.

Meet Claire and Jade
Jade has spent more than a decade working within or alongside State Government, first as a consultant and later in regional government roles. Her experience spans human resources, economic development, grants, stakeholder and community engagement.

Claire has worked in local government and community development and spent nearly a decade as CEO of a multi-company group in Kalgoorlie. She brings senior experience across strategy, operations, governance, workforce and organisational change.

Together, through Wander, we have supported state agencies and local governments across regional WA. We understand the systems government works within, the realities of regional delivery and how to turn a complex brief into clear, useful work.
They demonstrated a strong ability to build trust, facilitate productive conversations, and translate community insights into practical, well-structured program outcomes. Their work has strengthened our engagement processes and ensured programs are better aligned to local aspirations and capacity.
Manager, State Government
What was delivered was a professional strategy that hit 100% of the project deliverables. I have high expectations and Claire exceeded those expectations.
CEO, Shire of Menzies
We recently engaged Wander to support our work in Tourism across Aboriginal regional corporations, with a strong focus on meaningful engagement and culturally appropriate program design. Their approach was respectful, considered, and grounded in a genuine understanding of community priorities and governance structures.

What Working Together Looks Like
01: We understand the brief
We start by discussing the issue, the outcome you need, who needs to be involved and any deadlines, sensitivities or procurement requirements. We ask questions early so we
understand the work before recommending an approach.
02: We agree on the approach
We provide a clear scope covering the methodology, deliverables, responsibilities, timeframes and fees. We can work within your existing procurement, contracting, reporting and project governance requirements.
03: We deliver the work
We establish clear milestones, communication points and review stages from the outset. We keep you informed, raise risks early and provide well-documented work that is practical, defensible and ready to use.
