September had us thinking about what makes regional communities strong, from grassroots leadership and community-led development to the role tourism plays in building resilient local economies.

We were privileged to attend the South West Aboriginal Women’s Collective Roundtable in Bunbury, where yorgas from across the region came together for two days of connection, leadership and learning. It reinforced something we see time and again in our work: genuine change takes root when communities are supported to build from within.

On the way home, a stop at the York Agricultural Show got us thinking about another important part of regional development: the visitor economy. Tourism in WA is much bigger than our traditional destinations. Agricultural shows, wildflower trails, cultural experiences, heritage towns, local events and small businesses all contribute to visitor experiences and create flow-on benefits for regional communities.

This month we’re also sharing a Regional Arts funding opportunity, our thoughts on why regional projects deserve regional consultants, and introducing Rainbow Coast Socials, one of the clever regional businesses we love working alongside.

Grab a cuppa and catch up on the conversations, opportunities and ideas on our radar this month.
