Project Overview
Artgold, the peak body for the arts and cultural sector across the Goldfields–Esperance region, engaged Wander to support the organisation through a period of transition, strategic reflection and organisational strengthening.
As a member-based not-for-profit operating across a large and geographically dispersed region, Artgold was navigating the complexity of volunteer governance, diverse stakeholder expectations and broad sector representation. Alongside changes in Committee leadership and limited internal operational capacity, the organisation was seeking greater clarity around its purpose, priorities and long-term direction.
Strategic Planning & Consultation
The engagement commenced with the development of a new three-year Strategic Plan.
Wander facilitated a two-day consultation process involving Committee members, stakeholders and the broader membership base, creating space for open discussion around organisational identity, regional sector needs, future opportunities and operational realities.
Rather than approaching the Strategic Plan as a standalone document, Wander connected long-term vision with implementation, organisational capacity and operational sustainability. The process challenged assumptions, explored future possibilities and identified practical priorities grounded in both ambition and operational reality.
The resulting Strategic Plan provided Artgold with:
clearer strategic direction;
stronger organisational alignment;
improved advocacy positioning; and
a professionally designed external-facing document capable of supporting funding and partnership opportunities.
Governance & Organisational Review
Following completion of the Strategic Plan, Artgold re-engaged Wander to undertake a broader functional and governance review.
This stage of work examined:
governance structures;
organisational policies;
operational systems;
funding agreements;
position descriptions; and
internal processes.
To better understand organisational effectiveness and identify opportunities to strengthen sustainability, accountability and operational clarity.
The review also included a detailed budget audit for a large-scale LGA-funded program.
Practical Organisational Support
Working alongside the Committee during a period of limited internal capacity, Wander provided practical governance, strategic and operational support to help maintain organisational continuity while longer-term improvements were identified and implemented.
This included:
strengthening governance processes;
improving organisational clarity;
supporting operational coordination;
aligning day-to-day activity with broader strategic priorities; and
supporting external relationship-building and future partnership opportunities.
The Outcome
Together, the two stages of work provided Artgold with:
clearer strategic direction;
stronger governance foundations;
improved organisational alignment; and
a more sustainable platform for future growth, advocacy and sector leadership.
This project highlights Wander’s ability to work across strategy, governance, facilitation and organisational development simultaneously, helping not-for-profits navigate complexity and move from strategic intention to practical implementation with clarity and confidence.
